 DOWNTOWN ASSOCIATION MEETING

Tuesday, July 6, 2010

Robin Auch, Scott Cameron, Brandon Campea, Scott Carbonneau, Justin Carlin, Robin Carlson, Denise Goehring, Rick Jensen, Karen Palmer, Shanna Payne, Laura Schoen-Carbonneau, Rhonda Sweetman, Kellie Yackley & Kathy Villa

TREASURER’S REPORT- $3275.89

OLD BUSINESS

  1. Beautification of Pierre Street.  Thanks to all who turned out to build planters, pick up trash and plant flowers on Pierre St.  A huge thanks goes out to Modern Woodmen of America for the generous donation of money.  Thank-you Grand Rental for the free use of the stump remover.  Thank-you Ogan Construction for the dirt.  And thank-you to the business owners who  are diligently watering the flowers this summer.  Pierre St looks better.

  2. KCCR Ad Package - 600-30 second ads for $2000.00.  That’s $3.33/ad.  There are 6 businesses, plus the Downtown Association that have decided to take advantage of this offer.  It will be a little less that $300 per business, due in two installments.  Please pay Robin Auch the first $150.00 ASAP.  They did not get going for Oahe Days.  The new goal date is Crazy Days.

  3. Oahe Days/Capitol Centennial Celebration - Everything went well for Oahe Days.  There were many, many people in attendance at the Parade, but there was no one standing outside watching the Euclid Cruise.

  4. Scott Cameron asked Scott Carbonneau to hold off on ordering the Bike Racks.  Morris Construction may be able to build them for us at a lower rate.  The City has money to buy 2, but we think we need 8, to cover upper and lower Pierre St, so we may be asking for donations from businesses, just like we did for the trash cans.

  5. Crazy Days-July 30 and 31 - The Crazy Days Committee will meet today, July 6, at 2:00, at Pier 347.  Committee members are Scott Cameron, Karen Palmer, Brandon Campea, Denise Goehring, Shanna Payne, Robin Auch, Audra Cardwell, and Kathy Villa.  The next meeting will be July 13, @ 2:00, Pier347.

NEW BUSINESS

  1. Dakota Radio Ad Campaigns/Kellie Yackley and Robin Carlson

    1. Crazy Days/Coin Flip - The Great American Coin Toss will take place on July 31, at 1:00.  $500 in cash and prizes will be given away.  The Dakota Cruiser will be on hand for 3 hours during the day, including the coin flip.  The cost of $400 for the Dakota Cruiser, will be covered by the Association and will include 25-30 second ads.  Prior to Crazy Days, 1300 wooden Eagle coins will be given away by 13 participating businesses, who will have donated $10 cash and a $25 gift certificate.  The cost per business will be $300.30 and will include 60-30 second ads (30 for Crazy Days and 30 for a later date.)  As of this date, the 13 spots have been taken.  Check Dakota Radio website for details.

    2. Downtown Association Ad Campaign - We are looking at generic advertising for the Association.  The ads will not promote any one business, but will promote Pierre Street as a destination for shopping.  We can also promote our events.  Kellie and Robin presented 3 options and our newly formed Advertising Committee will go over it.

  2. Committees - Rick Jensen suggested that we form smaller committees that will meet monthly, in addition to our first Tuesday meetings.  It is our hope that business owners and/or staff people who don’t normally come to meetings, will want to participate and join one of these committees.  The committees, so far, are:

Events Committee: Audra Cardwell, Shanna Payne, Denise Goehring, Kathy Villa

Advertising/Media Committee: Justin Carlin, Nicole Loosbrock

Beautification Committee: Rick Jensen, Brandon Campea, Scott Cameron, Justin Carlin

Welcoming Committee: Denise Goehring, Karen Palmer, Rhonda Sweetman, Prairie Pages

  3. Meter Poles - The unsightly meter poles are going to be turned into flag poles, displaying seasonal/event flags.  This is already in progress.

  4. Upcoming events - Be watching for details of celebrations at the following businesses.  Everyone is encouraged to turn out and support your fellow business owners.

Grand Rental - Ribbon Cutting and Business After Hours-August 5th

Pier 347 - Grand Opening and Business After Hours-August __

The Muze - Grand Opening and Business After Hours-August__

  5. Name Change - Decided to leave as is.

  6. The Muze - Stop in and see this new business.  The renovations are beautiful.  Justin and Audra, along with Shanna Payne, from Curl Up and Dye, have lots of fun ideas and the energy to make them happen.  They are envisioning movie nights and street dances and an art alley (like in RC).  Let’s encourage their creativity and maybe they’ll let us tag along.

  7. Parking - A gentle reminder to tenants and business owners-Please park behind your businesses, leaving street parking for patrons. Thank-you.

NEXT MEETING-August 3-Pier 347 at 8:00 a.m.

  4. Beautification of Pierre Street. The Modern Woodmen of America is donating $1000.00 to the Association to use towards beautifying our street.
In conjunction with the citywide cleanup on June 12, we are asking all business owners on Pierre St. to meet at Muddy River Hobbies on Sunday, June 13, at 8:00 (or after church), and we will spruce up the street. In addition to generally picking up trash, we are renting a stump grinder to do away with the tree stumps & will build boxes & plant flowers in their place. If your building needs touch up painting, it’s a good time to do that-anything to make the street & our storefronts look prettier and more inviting.

  5. KCCR Ad Package-Eileen, from the Capital Journal has offered an ad package of 600 ads for $2000.00 to be shared amongst the Downtown Association members. That’s $3.33/ad. These will start airing, I believe, the week of Oahe Days. If you want to be part of it, call Scott Cameron.
